A new task management capability reduced coordination overhead for short-term rental property managers and improved visibility into guest readiness.
In 2025, Your.Rentals launched one of its largest features: a cleaning task manager that helps property managers coordinate cleaners and ensure properties are guest-ready. Johanna owned two areas: a mobile experience for an existing flow and end-to-end design of "manual tasks" for irregular, booking-specific work.
Early assumptions centered on repair-style tasks (e.g., broken window, electrical issues). Interviews showed those are typically handled outside the platform. The high-value need was guest-related add-ons tied to a booking (e.g., baby crib, gift basket, extra towels, deep clean) that still require coordination and tracking.
The task manager initially focused on recurring tasks for every booking. Manual tasks added support for one-off requests tied to a specific booking, like add-ons and special services.
Timing logic shifted from rigid deadline thinking to centering on when someone can access the property and ensuring completion before the next guest arrives.
A dedicated mobile experience supported quick creation, assignment, and tracking of tasks on the go, aligned with day-to-day operational work.
Early feedback indicated that managers could coordinate ad-hoc work with fewer manual follow-ups and maintain a clearer view of guest readiness.
Assumption-checking early in discovery prevented building for the wrong task type. Designing around flexible timing matched operational reality better than deadline-first patterns.

“The team had the absolute pleasure of having Johanna join to cover for a parental leave. She immediately made herself comfortable with the team tasks and started to contribute to the product. Her great design skills in combination of being practical and humble made the implementations fast and simple. Thanks to Johanna's pro-active communication and engagement in UX/UI she made sure no questions remained unanswered. Being such a down to earth professional made Johanna fit in with the team culture from the start. Any company who gets the opportunity to work with Johanna should consider themselves lucky.”

Based on insights, we added the flexible timing feature and more control over how to assign tasks
